Dear Cougars,
As the semester comes to a close, we want to thank you for participating in the more than 300 BYUSA activities and providing over 20,000 hours of service to your fellow students. We want you to know some of what you accomplished as a part of the student association.
BYUSA works through student volunteers to serve our student body and to advise the administration about our needs. We invite you to visit our Web site to find out more about the association at byusa.byu.edu.
Through large events, such as Friday Night Live, Homecoming, and this past week?s Freezefest, and smaller events such as club activities or Q&A sessions, BYUSA has served over 35,000 students this semester. Please visit our website to stay up to date on upcoming activities.
With your generous help at Fallfest, BYUSA was able to donate $7,240 to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Additional service was provided during Y-Week and Care Week. During Care Week, the 5,200 participants of clubs were able to raise additional thousands of dollars for various charities.
BYUSA?s Vote Project was named the best student-led initiative in the state of Utah last year, and this year we were able to register and commit 1,500 voters for upcoming local elections.
In addition, BYUSA continues to present your voice to the administration. Representatives share the student voice to administrators on 11 university committees such as the Campus Traffic and Parking Committee and the Student Academic and Advisement Services Assessment Committee. This semester, BYUSA?s Student Advisory Council worked to increase the number of Y lot parking spaces south of campus, to provide a class to prepare students for graduate school, and is looking into providing an All Arts Pass to students. Please visit the Student Advisory Council link on our website to find out more about what the Council is doing and to share any suggestions you may have.
BYUSA elections and officer appointments for next year will be happening in March. We invite you to consider becoming involved in BYUSA leadership. Visit our Web site and click on the becoming an officer link for more information.
As we finish the year, we remember President Hinckley?s challenge to read the Book of Mormon. BYUSA has handed out 11,000 commitment cards as a part of our Y Read campaign and yesterday we passed out 1,000 copies of the Book of Mormon for students to share as they travel over the holidays. We invite you to e-mail your Book of Mormon experiences and testimonies to yread@byu.edu. We will compile your messages in a book for President Hinckley early next year.
This has been a great semester for BYUSA, and we thank you for your support. With your help, we can make next semester even better. We wish you the best of luck on finals and hope that you have a wonderful holiday season.
