This article is in the Nov. 15 edition of The Daily Universe
Last Thursday, the Student Advisory Council hosted a successful question and answer session with The Daily Universe editors. We here at the paper appreciated your questions and hope that you were satisfied with our answers. We would also hope that those with suggestions in the future don't wait until the next Q&A to make them known to us.
We value input from our readers. The newspaper, after all, is not just a lab for journalism students. It is also intended to help members of the BYU community become involved in and stay informed about campus, local and national issues. Basically, we write for you, our readers, and want to know if you are satisfied or not.
There are many ways you can become involved with the content that makes it into the paper. If you have a news tip for us, give us a call or come on in to the newsroom (152 BRMB) and talk to the editors. We can't always know everything that is happening around campus or in the community and would appreciate your help in keeping us informed.
Often, people complain because an event they were involved in wasn't covered. And all too often, we just have to shrug our shoulders and tell them we didn't know about it. We have a limited staff and can't be everywhere at once, but if you tell us about something going on, there's a good chance you'll see us there.
If you have a complaint, you can also come in and air your grievances or write a letter to the editor. We just ask that you be cordial with us. Our goal is not to upset, but to inform and help. We are regular people just trying to do a good job and realize that we sometimes make mistakes that may upset someone. That is not our goal. So if you are respectful, like the people in the Q&A were, then we will gladly take your complaints and try to mend the situation.
We are eager to hear your suggestions and answer your questions. If you have an idea for a feature that you think our readership might like, let us know. If you have a question about our news gathering techniques, we'd be glad to educate you.
So come on in and talk to us any time you feel so inclined. We look forward to seeing you.
