A service elevator crushed a 19-year old Gold?s Gym employee?s legs Wednesday.
The victim, whose name was not released, fell 15 feet down the elevator shaft where the elevator platform broke his fall.
Other Gold?s Gym employee?s, including the victim?s brother, pressed the elevator call button, causing the elevator to rise and consequently trapping the victims legs between the platform and the sloping elevator wall.
The conscious victim remained trapped for three hours as his brother, 27, held him. Firefighters propped the elevator platform up with timber and cut him free using a plasma cutter and torch.
He was then carried out of the gym and loaded into a life-flight helicopter and taken to the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He is in fair condition with tissue injuries but no broken bones.
