Elder Cook to speak at Devotional

Elder Gene R. Cook, member of the First Quorum of the Seventy and assistant executive director of the Missionary Department, will speak at the campus Devotional today.

After being called in October 1975 to serve as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy, Elder Cook was called to the Seventy when the council was reorganized in 1976.

Elder Cook received a bachelor?s degree in business management and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Arizona State University. After serving in various managing and consulting positions with Mountain States Telephone and Metropolitan Life Insurance, Elder Cook was hired in 1970 to work as the management trainer for Church employment and Church headquarters.

Elder Cook and his wife, Janelle Schlink, has served in various capacities for the LDS Church including area president of the North America Southeast, North America West, and Mexico/Central America Areas and president of the Uruguay/Paraguay Mission. He also served executive secretary to the First Council of the Seventy for three years before he was called to the Council. He currently serves as assistant executive director of the Missionary Department.

The Devotional will be broadcast live in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium and the Varsity Theatre in the Wilkinson Student Center, as well as on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks, KBYU-FM (89.10) and at byubroadcasting.org.
