Aggies cruise past Cougars for season sweep

PROVO, Utah - Spencer Nelson scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Utah State past Brigham Young 84-62 Saturday, the Aggies' first win in Provo since 1985.

Jaycee Carroll added 21 points and Nate Harris scored 16 for the Aggies (7-2), who have won three in a row over state rival BYU (2-7).

The Aggies led the entire game with solid play inside, shooting 30-for-59 (50.8 percent) from the field and scoring 38 points in the paint. Utah State also outrebounded BYU 46-29.

Nelson was 9-for-13 and was 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Six of his rebounds were on offense and he led the Aggies with seven rebounds.

Austin Ainge scored 21 points to lead the Cougars. BYU was just 23-for-58 from the floor and Mike Rose was the only other BYU player in double figures with 14 points.

Utah State held Mike Hall, BYU's leading scorer, to just 1-for-4 shooting from the floor and Hall finished the game with four points and four rebounds in 22 minutes.

Utah State took a 13-4 lead early in the game before BYU got back to within four points with 2:21 in the first half. But the Aggies stormed back with a 11-1 run to end the half with a 41-27 lead and came right back at the Cougars in the first two minutes of the second half with a 12-2 run.
