The Student Honor Association will be hosting Project Modesty 2005 for all BYU students who need to get rid of their immodest clothing hanging in the back of their closets.
'We wanted to give people an opportunity to take any clothes that they had, that they felt uncomfortable with modesty wise and be able to get rid of it and throw it out,' said Sarah Hachtman, one of the SHA members coordinating the program.
All of the clothing donated will be used to make quilts and given to people who need warm items during the winter months.
'BYU students are very intelligent,' said Ezinne Ojukwu, a member of SHA. 'Something like this shouldn''t be a difficult thing to do.'
The project will start next semester because many students will have new Christmas clothes and won''t need to keep their immodest ones, Hachtman said. Bins will be placed all over campus for all those who feel the need to give up their revealing clothing.
'I really like that it gives people a chance to get the immodest clothing out of their dresser drawers because I feel like we all have something that is always tempting us,' Hachtman said. 'We think it is cute, but at the same time we know that it is against the Dress and Grooming Standards.'
SHA plans on promoting this program by making posters and putting them all over campus. They said they hope everyone who needs to make changes in their lives will.
