Defense focus of game against GWU

By Katherine Gholson

The BYU women''s basketball team takes on George Washington University today at 5:30 p.m. in the Marriott Center.

GWU upset No. 24 Villanova on Dec. 1.

'We need to get ready for their players,' Ambrosia Anderson junior forward said.

Head coach Jeff Judkins said the team is going to focus on their man-to-man defense.

'They run things we haven''t seen this year,' he said.

The Cougars are trying to prepare for the quick Colonials by staying focused on the game.

'We need to stick with our fundamentals,' Anderson said.

Sticking with the fundamentals worked last week, when the Cougars crushed the Portland Pilots 70-35.

The Cougars are a big team this year, but so are the Colonials.

'Their bigs are very quick; that''s a hard match-up for us,' Judkins said.

BYU is preparing for a large Colonial team by improving their help defense.

Last Tuesday, everyone played for the Cougars in the victory over Portland. Judkins said many players have had a great season.

'Mary is going to be a great player, Julie brings intensity and leadership like nobody else, Brosia is one of the hardest players to guard and Danielle Cheesman has played the best basketball I have ever seen her play,' Judkins said.

With all of this talent, size and strength, Judkins said the Colonials will have a challenge guarding BYU.

'I want to come in and hopefully play one of our best games,' Judkins said.
