BYU clubs will host entertaining events this week to raise money for local charities.
Care Week, the only week during the semester where campus organizations can raise money for off-campus charities, began last week and will go until Thursday.
Kelly Clark, BYUSA club executive director, said this is a great way for students to get involved and support a charity.
'Care Week is people coming together, using their talents and resources to expand their horizons outside of our campus and contribute to far-reaching causes,' she said.
Comedy shows by Brand X, a barbeque by the Southern Culture Club and a dinner auction by The Fratelli will be a few of the events for this upcoming week.
'This will give students on campus a good recreational experience while donating to a good cause,' Clark said.
Stephanie Christensen, 21, majoring in environmental soil science, said she thinks Care Week is good opportunity for clubs.
'This is a great way for clubs to serve those that meet their cause,' she said. 'That''s what clubs are all about.'
Swing Kids is one club that contributed to this week''s events by hosting a workshop and dance Saturday night in the Knight Magnum Building.
Michael Smith, president of Swing Kids, said they are giving their proceeds to the Utah Swing Dance Association, a non-profit organization that formally arranges annual events.
'Swing Kids has been involved with Care Week as long as I can remember,' he said. 'This is the first time we have offered a workshop, though.'
Smith said he always gets excited for these dances and this one will be open to everyone.
'We hope that along with the other events, we will be one part of the fabulous week to help other people around the community,' he said.
The average price for these events is $3. Pre-sold tickets for selected events are available at the WSC information desk.
