*Saturday Morning Session
Elder Dale E. Miller, of the Quorum of the Seventy, spoke about conversion to the Gospel in the Saturday morning session of General Conference.
Elder Miller started his talk with a story about Elder Maxwell and the doctrines associated with obtaining peace and healing.
?Elder Maxwell was and remains a wonderful example of selfless love,? Elder Miller said. ?His concern for others was bone-deep, especially for those with physical and emotional pains. And walking out of his office, one cannot help but be more committed to being Christ-like. He set a standard for us all. He loved the Savior. He was indeed a true disciple and Apostle.?
Elder Miller quoted Elder Maxwell?s insight by saying how total peace and healing comes through total conversion of the soul.
Elder Miller also quoted President Marion G. Romney by saying membership in the church and conversion is not necessarily the synonymous.
?Conversion does not normally come all at once.? Elder Miller said. ?Even though the scriptures give us dramatic accounts, it comes in stages. Until the person becomes at a heart, a new person.?
Elder Miller explained that it is a change of how we think and how we feel. Elder Miller used Enos and Alma the younger as examples of conversion.
?There is a pattern here of fathers teaching children about the Atonement and eternal life,? Elder Miller said. ?It is a pattern for all fathers in our day.?
Elder Miller said the Lord would do for us what he did for Enos and Alma.
Elder Miller quoted C.S. Lewis by saying, ?When Christ died, he died for you individually. Just as much as if you had been the only man or woman in the world.?
Elder Miller explained that conversion grows through repentance and obedience.
?As conversion matures and is sustained thorough the workings of the Holy Ghost, peace and healing comes to the soul,? Elder Miller said.
Elder Miller told of when someone asked President Romney how can one know when one was converted. President Romney said they would be assured of it by the way he feels.
Elder Miller said Peter describes what happens in a full-conversion. ?It is through the total conversion experience that we truly come to personally know and feel the character and greatness of God. It is the means for by we become servants of the Lord but his friends as well.?
Elder Miller quoted Joseph Smith by saying, ?It is the first principle of the Gospel to know for certainty the character of God. I want you all to know him and to be familiar with him.?
Elder Miller in closing said knowing God and becoming his friend comes with the conversion process.
?I testify that the Father and the Son are knowable and love you,? Elder Miller said. ? I feel that love through the power of the Spirit.?
