Leave 'Emo' alone

Emo. It's probably the buzz word for music right now. Even to the point where the Daily Universe has felt the need to use it in more than one of their articles. As a listener of the 'emo' brand of music, please, I beg of you, shut up already.

You see two major types of people at 'emo' concerts currently. The ones who are there because they enjoy the music, and the ones who are in the brown pants, thick rimmed glasses, and wearing either a band, Atticus, or Saver's shirt in hopes that they will truly show the world how 'scene' they are. This isn't to say that people who look like the second can't also enjoy the music, but generally, you'll find that the majority of the people who know what they're talking about in music don't dress like that. In fact, most of the bands don't even dress like that. For all you 'scene' kids out there who attempt to argue with me, take a look at some of the bands out there and see if there's a style. Not a single one looks alike and not a single one looks similar to what is being perpetuated by this ill-conceived fad.

Dave Crosby was recently interviewed and said, 'The current ethos in the United States of America is all to do with surface and nothing to do with substance.' If that doesn't sum up the media's attention to the 'emo' genre, I don't know what does.

I'm begging you guys. Stop feeding this trend. Leave it what it is. Music. Good music. Music that doesn't reflect a type or style, but instead reflects the substance of someone's feelings. Music that is genuine and more often than not, not worried about a look.
