Alphabet soup

In reference to the editorial on April 13th about the improper use of the term 'D&C' instead of 'Doctrine and Covenants' - I couldn't agree with you more.

The use of abbreviations, nick names and acronyms has no place at BYU or any other LDS organization. But we need to be patient with those who have grown accustomed to their use. For example, last Monday I was on my way to FHE on the road between DT and the MTC when I overheard someone make the comment 'D&C' in reference to a scripture. I was really upset, but then I thought, WWJD? So I decided to CTR. To get the spirit back, I read from the BOM and did some cross-referencing in the JST of the Bible. I had a great FHE and afterwards I dropped off some clothes at DI on my way up the temple in SLC. Needless to say, I had a lot to talk about the next Sunday at my PPI.

Anyway, I hope my experience can help all of those who, like Terry and I, assume that when we read 'D&C' in an article of The Daily Universe, it's talking about an unpleasant, post-labor, medical procedure. Just try to be patient and realize that D&C is a pretty common term for a book of scripture here in Provo and if we give our fellow students a little patience and TLC, it'll be OK.
