Wow, when I read the editorials page in the Daily Universe, I am frequently overcome with intense feelings of pity for those who take the time to vent and express how shocking life at BYU has become.
Just today as I skimmed the page, I came across troublesome words like bothered, offended and amazed. The word that wins the Most Commonly Used Award (and I might add, abused) is appalled.
This poor word never escapes the clutches of the opinion page and appears several times a week. So, to add my sentiments to those who have gone before me in writing into The Daily Universe: Frankly, I'm appalled that you're appalled at all of the common appalling things, that shouldn't be quite so appalling because of the apparent abundance of 'appall' we seem to have here on campus.
The situation isn't as extreme as you think. People aren't quite so dumb, laws and policies aren't all on the brink of taking away your pursuit of happiness and more often than not articles are intended to be humorous rather than offensive to your delicate sensibilities.
