As a freshman, I am privy to many enjoyable activities that school organizations make available. Winning volley ball tickets and answering nutrition questions for a free Frisbee are two examples of the benefits that have been afforded me by the consciences efforts of the people trying to make BYU life more pleasant.
Sadly, a recent good-hearted attempt to make life more pleasant has certainly turned sour. The boorish actions of careless people have led to a great deal of hurt and confusion among the students living in Helaman Halls.
Recently, an art competition aroused excitement among a minority of my fellow residents. This excitement was turned to pain as some art was close mindedly labeled 'kiddie art,' and was accompanied by stick figures with word bubbles above them saying such things as 'I can draw too.'
Is this shameless attack necessary? I thought that educated people were less prone to discriminate against things that were different. Oddly, people at a university pushed aside, forgot and neglected to label these pieces. My only desire is that the honest and fair entrees be treated honestly and fairly. What happened to the acceptance of the saints?
