Viewpoint: Marriage is a privilege, not a right

Forgive me if I'm splitting hairs here, but it seems to me that everyone is confused about gays' 'rights' being infringed if the ban on same sex marriages goes through.

None of their rights, civil or otherwise would be imposed on because marriage is not a right. Not for heterosexuals, homosexuals, or anyone. No where in our constitution (nor any constitution I'm aware of) does it say that people have the right to get married. If it were a natural right, we wouldn't have to get marriage licenses or be married by someone the state has authorized to perform marriages.

Marriage is an institution God put into place to make us happy and to raise up His children. It isn't something anyone has the right to do and I think we've all seen the consequences of people marrying for the wrong reasons.

Marriage is a privilege, not a 'right', and it is a privilege which should be reserved for those who will honor it the way God intends.
