Scared to talk face to face?

A recent critical editorial in this paper regarding medical care at the Student Health Center compels me as a physician at the center for many years to share some insights and experiences. The appropriate forum for discussion of dissatisfaction is one in which a timely, first-hand investigation can be conducted into the facts of the cases with those who were actually involved. This is much more productive than a sweeping public accusation based on second-hand hearsay stories.

We are certainly not above criticism and in fact have several mechanisms in place to receive feedback in a way that allows us to handle it in the most effective manner. This process includes comment cards at the reception desks, electronic surveys in every department and easy access to administration. We continually encourage students to participate in the healthy process of communicating their concerns to us in a way that will allow us to evaluate and identify specific situations that can then be addressed and improved as appropriate.
