Not only has the new Wells Fargo Bank met all of its business goals since opening, they managed to surpass them.
David Funk, manager of the BYU Wells Fargo Branch, said they are at 349 percent of the expected business goal as far as opening new accounts and business products.
'They had expectations that we would do a certain amount of business and we just totally squashed that,' he said.
Gary Nuila, a part-time employee of the Wells Fargo Bank, said the bank performs a high number of transactions, such as opening new accounts and depositing.
'We hardly have a minute where we can relax,' Nuila said. 'During the first week the line was way out the door.'
The overall performance has outdone almost all the branches in Utah County, he said.
Funk said the reason for this overwhelming amount of business is because of the location. Being placed in a high traffic location of the bookstore makes it hard to miss.
The convenience of having a bank on campus is another cause for such a high performance.
Funk described his experience as a BYU student back in 1989. He used to walk to campus to figure out a way to get to the bank, which took a lot of extra time. He said it''s beneficial having a bank on campus because it saves the students time.
Jennifer Henry, a customer service manager, said the great customer service also contributed to the bank meeting all their business goals.
'They are aggressively friendly, and they make sure they meet every student''s need,' she said. 'They give students offers of overdraft protection, credit cards, and its really important for students to take advantage of it now because it helps build their credit.'
Henry knew this bank would do well even before it opened. She moved from California to Provo because she knew the location of the bank would help make great sales.
Most of the employees who work in the bank know two to three languages.
In total, four languages are spoken at this branch: Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and English.
'BYU talks a lot about ... the diversity of the languages at BYU, and I think that it''s kind of nice that the bank reflects the diversity of the language base,' Funk said.
Nuila, who served in a Spanish speaking mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said there are Latin American people coming in as well as many international students. He said it is a good opportunity for him to use the language, and it also increases the quality of the customer service.
Henry said she wanted to show that Wells Fargo is a great team to work with. The employees are really positive, creating a pleasant environment for the customers.
'We are at 300 percent of our goals just because of the opportunity that we have,' she said. 'It''s a great location. I know it''s going to be that way for months to come, and quarters to come.'
