Letter to the Editor: Not only the rich

I would like to write in response to the recent editorials about the 'upper-class living' of BYU students. Renee Wilson wrote that the purpose of the article was to 'showcase the small minority of rich kids who mooch off their parents.'

I live in at Belmont and this is not the case.

My dad and I are co-owners of the condo, making the care and upkeep of the condo my responsibility. If something happens to the condo, it is my responsibility to fix it. It is not just a plush place that mommy and daddy gave me to trash. I also have two younger sisters who will be attending BYU and will be living in the condo and instead of paying rent; we are actually saving the family money.

The statement that the people who live in 'plush surroundings' don't have to work through college is absolutely false. There are a lot of people who live in more expensive housing work so that they can live there. They like the fact they can support themselves and afford a nicer apartment.

Just because someone lives in an expensive place doesn't mean they are snobs.

You will find snobs everywhere, just look around -- married housing, the dorms, cheap apartments, and not so cheap apartments. I resent the fact Renee feels there are only amazing people in certain areas. Does that sounds like a snotty statement to anyone else? How about you look around and see the person for who they are and not for where they live.I agree the article should not have been written in the first place. It teaches us to look at material things instead of what really matters. Can't everyone just get along?
