Dear Editor,
In response to the request that we as students come up with the $8 million to help build this so-called 'student' athletic facility, I want to ask how dare this school even attempt to request funding from the vast majority of students who will never even benefit by its presence.
From what I understand, this facility is being built for the athletic teams. This is another slap in the face to the students who already are putting up with the new parking adventure west of the practice field or shall I say lack of parking due to this latest construction project.
As a student here at BYU, I am fed up with the privileges that these athletes receive both in the classroom and with the money that is poured into their programs while academics seem to have to fight for any type of funding.
I don't usually voice my opinion about things going on at this school, but this is just too much.
What is the goal of this school? To lift athletics over anything else? Or does the motto 'Enter to Learn Go Forth to Serve' have some kind of sports implication to it?
What I and my fellow students have put down our hard earned money for is a top notch education. So why don't we try to raise $8 million for that instead?
