Dear Editor,
Reading the recent letters to the editor about terrorism and articles in The Universe has made me wonder if people in Provo, especially BYU students, really know what's going on in the rest of the United States.
When I came home for the summer I was hit with the reality that Sept. 11 is still going on for many people. Living on the East Coast means I hear stories on the news every day about Afghanistan and Washington D.C. Everyone out here is still affected by what happened several months ago.
When I read the article online about Toby Keith singing at the stadium, I couldn't believe there were people who didn't like his song. Yes, it's an angry song, but he wrote about his true feelings. Those feelings also express how many people here still feel. Sometimes you need to use strong words to express strong emotions, and we shouldn't be judgmental of that.
The person who commented about the message of the song doesn't truly understand the song or the feelings that exist. He isn't conveying a negative message. It's the truth. If you don't understand, then try coming to Washington D.C. or New York for a few days and look at how life has changed.
This song is our feelings and everyone needs to understand angry songs sometimes make people feel better when they have no other way to act out.
