Student becomes slave to Britney Spears

By Laura Sanderson

Jack Miller won''t deny it and he won''t hide it -- he is a slave for Britney Spears this summer.

Beginning back on May 24, Jack Miller, 22, a junior from Saugerties, NY, majoring in international studies, bagan living out a dream, when he joined Spears'' Dream within a Dream American tour.

Miller recently landed a spot with tour sponsor, Samsung, who runs an electronics booth at every concert. He will spend nine weeks behind the counter, selling products and hauling goods.

The summer leg of the Dream within a Dream tour hits 34 venues in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, in only 2 months. This breakneck pace doesn''t scare Miller.

'I''ve done a lot of interesting things,' he said, 'But this is a chance to do something different. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.'

His interest in Spears is lost on many BYU students.

Adam Wankier, 21, a junior from Danbury, Conn., majoring in construction management does not like Britney.

'I hate the way she dresses and she doesn''t sing that well. She is a horrible role model for the youth of today,' he said.

Wankier is not alone. Distaste for Britney Spears has spawned the creation of ABSO, the AntiBritney Spears Organization. Its Web site is dedicated to revealing Britney''s blunders and promoting her downfall.

ABSO''s Web site even suggests that people attending her concerts sing Christina Aguilera songs and hand out earplugs.

But Jack Miller won''t be dissuaded. He wants to remind others that Spears is a person, too, and that they should be slow to judge.

'I like Britney,' Miller said, 'She is a great performer and a beautiful girl.'

Some BYU students agree with him. They reflect the growing college audience that has helped Spears keep her latest album in the top 100 for 56 weeks.

'I like her music,' said Emily Hutchison, 21, a senior from Danbury, Conn., majoring in social science teaching. 'It is fun to dance to with roommates.'

Unfortunately, Miller''s summer will be more work and less dancing. That doesn''t mean he isn''t interested in having some fun... with Britney.

Miller sees her recent breakup with NSYNC heartthrob, Justin Timberlake, as promising. Amid many teeny bopper fans, he hopes to stand out as a mature listener.

Afterall, he says, 'She is more a woman, less a girl.'
