Dear Editor,
Let's talk about freaks for a minute. What exactly is a 'freak' anyway? Can we define that term?
A freak, apparently, is NOT someone who attended BYU in the early nineties era, graduated, fled to California seeking normalcy, wrote his alma mater to call half of the current student body 'freaks,' and is still single at the ripe age of 29.
Since I don't fit this 'NOT freak' description, I am left to ask myself, 'Am I a freak?'
According to some, 'Just over 50 percent of the university population are freaks.' So, the odds are not in my favor.
Now add my husband to this equation. What are the chances that at least one of us is a freak? I don't know. Or there's always the possibility that both of us are freaks!
If this is the case, how grateful I am to an institution that admitted so many of us so that we could find each other and start our 'freak family.' Then in 20 years our 'freak children' could come to BYU, since I am sure the 'freak admittance rate' will have increased to at least 75 percent by then.
Then again, so what if I am a freak? I am happy operating in my little 'freak matrix.' At least I am not, as Brigham Young put it, a 'menace to society.'
