Reverence and the act of showing respect is the topic of the May 21 Devotional.
'In a world where casual attitudes dictate what we do, we need to review areas in our lives where we can improve the respect we show to deity,' said Edwin G. Austin, associate professor of dance.
Austin will review the principles of showing respect to things that are sacred.
We develop repetition in our prayers and attitudes that keep us from showing reverence, Austin said.
'We live in a fast-paced world but we need to slow down and show the proper respect so we do not run the risk of showing disrespect to things which are sacred and important,' he said.
Austin received his bachelors and masters degrees from BYU in recreational management. He is a member of the dance faculty and the director of the International Folk Dance Ensemble at BYU.
Austin will speak in the de Jong Concert Hall at 11:05 a.m. with overflow seating available in W-112 of the Benson Building.
