Letter to the Editor: Enforce dating rules

Dear Editor,

We love the Readers' Forum! Where else can people make indiscriminate generalizations about the BYU student body?

Of course, that doesn't mean we

think all the generalizations are stupid. We just think there is room for improvement.

Forget about expelling 19-year-old women that don't want to get married. Since we're all so keen on expulsion, we say that any return missionary that wants to date a 19-year-old should be expelled.

What RM in his right mind would date a woman who has lived away from home for only a year or so, has limited education, loves TRL, has a tan for all seasons, and spends more money on hair highlights than tuition?

Obviously, RM's who date these women aren't using their minds, and thus do not belong at BYU.

Also, a rule that disallows the dating of 19 year-olds has many practical benefits. For one, the phrase, 'but she's really mature for her age' would drop from the BYU vernacular.

In addition, the commitment pattern would cease to be such an effective dating tool since it only works on 19-year-olds who don't know what it is.

Most importantly, the rule would force RM's to actually develop post-mission personalities instead of relying upon their idealized mission experiences.

So, if you know a returned missionary that is dating, or heaven-forbid engaged, to a 19-year-old, immediately report them to the nearest BYUSA representative - oh wait, they wouldn't have the power to do anything anyway.
