Letter to the Editor: Practical defense

Dear Editor,

I was disappointed in the 'Respect basic rights' letter.

We believe that all men have the unalienable rights of 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.' But when one party oversteps their rights and seeks to destroy our life and liberty, it is our right (and even our duty) to step forward and defend that freedom.

I suppose that people similar to the author wouldn't have supported the Boston Tea Party either. It was only a little tax on an insignificant drink, right?

After all, it's not like they destroyed the icon of the market system and murdered nearly 5,000 innocent civilians.

President G.W. Bush is doing nothing different than what George Washington (G.W.) did; defend our liberty from those who were seeking to destroy it.

We are not forcing anyone to accept our virtues; we are simply defending them.

President Bush is actually being merciful. He is giving, and will continue to give Iran ample opportunities to quit harboring terrorists before we must go in.

So for those that don't think it is moral to 'awake to a sense of awful situation' (Ether 8:24), I say to you: sleep on!

Sleep on, while dreaming of your intellectual idealisms, but quit obstructing the road for those that are doing what it takes to defend and secure our 'life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.'

Nothing can exist without conditions.
