SLC mayor announces new chief of staff

    Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson announced Wednesday, Sept. 26, that Jay Magure will be the mayor”s new chief of staff.

    Magure has served as president of the Salt Lake Firefighters Association for several years, but will be beginning work in the mayor”s office Monday, Oct. 1.

    “My three essential criteria for successful upper-level leadership positions are intelligence, a good work ethic and a passion for helping to make this a better community,” Anderson said. “Jay unquestionably meets all these criteria and will be an extraordinary addition to our team.”

    Joshua Ewing, communications director at the mayor”s office, said that in addition to having great organizational skills, Magure “works incredibly hard and knows how to get things done.”

    Magure said the move to the mayor”s office is an opportunity to have a greater impact on the community.

    “The passion of the mayor and his commitment to this community has inspired me to want to be a major part in making this all happen,” he said.

    Anderson is likewise enthusiastic about his new chief of staff and said, “Everything I have seen in Jay gives me confidence that he will take our already talented and devoted team to the next level.”

    The chief of staff is responsible for coordinating the mayor”s office with the rest of the Salt Lake government agencies, Ewing said.

    “Basically, it is a lot of coordination and policy making,” he said.
