In keeping with the rest of the nation, the BYU-Mississippi State football game scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, has been postponed in observance of the terrorist attacks Tuesday, Sept. 11.
The decision was made Thursday, Sept. 13, and no make-up date for the game has been determined.
'As we have looked at the many different aspects of this tragedy, it is obvious this is clearly the right thing to do,' said Val Hale, BYU athletic director.
Jeff Reynolds, BYU''s football media relations director, said the decision was a mutual one made by both universities and their athletic directors.
'Safety had absolutely nothing to do with it; the decision was made out of respect and mourning,' Reynolds said.
'I think it''s the right thing to do. I don''t think there''s words to describe what the country is going through right now,' Reynolds said. 'Let''s pay some attention to the country and the people who were affected by this tragedy.'
BYU head coach Gary Crowton was involved in the decision-making process. The general feeling among the football team and staff was that the decision to postpone the game was the right decision, Reynolds said.
'It''ll be an opportunity for the players to spend the weekend with their families,' Reynolds said.
