The busy hands of Cougareat employees will continue serving during the Tuesday devotionals of Spring and Summer Terms.
According to the Student Handbook, dining, library, testing center and bookstore services, are to close down and classes are not held during Fall and Winter Semester devotionals.
However, a stroll through the Wilkinson Center during devotional hour reveals that the Cougareat is an exception to this rule during Spring and Summer.
Dean A. Wright, director of Dining Services, said during the regular academic year, the Cougareat is closed during devotionals.
'To serve those needs, we remain open and, hopefully, BYU students will still attend the devotional,' he said.
'It''s not for us to make more money. It''s to serve those needs.'
Employees at the Cougareat understand the need to remain open during devotionals.
Bridgid Thomas, 21, a junior, from Los Angeles, Calif., majoring business and an employee of Sugar-n-Spice, understands the need the Cougareat remains open.
'When there''s more people on campus that have nothing to do with the school, it''s not fair to close down.'
Thomas said if the Cougareat did not remain open, visitors attending the summer programs would have to leave campus to eat.
Kristen Garrett, 25, a senior from Provo, majoring in Dietetics and an employee for Tomassito''s, said she is unopposed to the Cougareat remaining open during devotionals.
'It doesn''t affect me too much. I would go to the devotional once in a while during Fall and Winter, depending on how much homework I had. During Spring and Summer, it''s not a big deal for me because they re-broadcast the devotional.'
Tammy Thayne, also an employee for Tomassito''s, suggested the devotional be audio broadcast throughout the Cougareat so customers and employees can hear it.
UVSC students are able to watch our devotionals, which are broadcasted in various study areas and lounges on the campus, Thayne said.
In the Cougareat, the devotional is only broadcast for the cooks and prep-crew in the kitchen area she said.
