"Priesthood shepherds": Elder Henry B. Eyring

By Scott Creer

Brethren in the priesthood, deacons and high priests alike, must become shepherds of Israel for the rest of the world, said Elder Henry B. Eyring, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

'It is love that must motivate the shepherds of Israel,' Elder Eyring said at the priesthood session of general conference.

As priesthood holders, men are responsible to watch over the church and ensure the well-being of other members, Elder Eyring said.

'We must watch over ourselves as well as others,' Elder Eyring said.

The task of overseeing the membership of the church can be quite daunting, but Elder Eyring counseled members to rely on the Lord as they watched over others.

'It is not easy to do well and consistently,' Elder Eyring said. '(The Lord) watches with us ....'

By constantly looking out for other members, the shepherds of Israel will find that their love for the Lord increases, Elder Eyring said.

'As you watch over his sheep, your love for him will increase,' Elder Eyring said.

The Savior has set the prime example of being a shepherd over his flock, Elder Eyring said.

'I am a witness the Savior watches over His sheep,' Elder Eyring said.
