Letter to the Editor: Remove bookstore televisions

Dear Editor,

The purpose of this letter is not to argue the negative influence of television on civilization (except for Sportscenter, of course), although that could be debated rationally. The purpose is to spark debate about the placement of television sets within the BYU Bookstore.

Many times I have stopped to browse the books and to take a break from the mad rush of university life. The bookstore has always been the perfect medium between the high volume of the Cougareat and the traditional silence of the library.

I do not have a problem with the television sets on floor one or floor three because they are placed in areas that are not used for browsing books.

I suggest that the management of the bookstore remove them from the second main floor, and place them in other areas of the Wilkinson Student Center where they would be better utilized and more appropriate, or they can send them back to the store to save a little money.

The utility that they offer the campus body is little at best. I just do not know where the idea came from. I don't remember a high demand or plea from the student body or faculty.

Maybe it was some BYUSA person trying better to serve others or to fulfill a strange campaign promise?

Regardless of the instigator of the plan, it would be best to remove them as soon as possible. Thank You.
