Groundhog Day this year will leave many on the edge of their seats in suspense.
Will winter linger on or will Jack Frost pack his bags and let spring move in?
Groundhog Day revolves around the tradition of whether or not groundhog Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow, according to www.groundhog.org.
It is believed that after a long winter the groundhog will come out of his hole to look for his shadow.
If the groundhog sees his shadow, it is considered a forecast of six more weeks of winter weather and he returns to his hole.
However, if the groundhog does not see his shadow, he will consider it a sign that spring is near and come out of his hole.
Some students eagerly await today''s verdict - will winter stay or is spring weather close?
Winter weather lovers hope to gain a few more weeks of the cold and snow.
Tyson Croft, 18, a freshman at UVSC from Orem said he enjoys winter because of his love for snowboarding.
'There''s nothing better than riding through powder,' Croft said.
'I like to be in the mountains when it''s cold because it''s so quiet and peaceful,' he said. 'You can just get away and forget about everything.'
Croft said he hopes to get in at least six more weeks on the slopes before the warmer weather rolls in.
Some students would like to do away with the cold weather and welcome the thought of springtime and sun.
'January and February are the most depressing months. I just want to get into my bed because it''s so cold. You can''t really do anything but stay inside and watch movies,' said Kacey Cozean, 19, a sophomore from Renton, Wash., majoring in early childhood education.
Cozean said she hopes that spring will come soon so she can get outside and play. She doesn''t like to worry about being cold, she said.
'I want spring to come so that I can wear my capris. I can''t wait for spring clothes!' she said.
Cat Correa, 22, a senior from Lakeland, Fla., majoring in interior design, is also awaiting Jack Frost''s departure.
'I love warm weather - I like everything about it. I love being outside when everything is green,' she said.
The verdict awaits - will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow? All this depends on a hairy animal that hibernates in a hole.
