Dear Editor,
Sometimes I wonder if many students have made the leap from the Old to New Testament. Allow me to address the controversy over the salvation of those who have two earrings on one ear. To the people who may believe these sisters do not love the prophet, let us pull ourselves from out of Law of Moses and into the one where judging is a sin in itself. I truly wonder how many of these Pharisee-like students condemn two earring wearers to damnation and then go French kiss their girlfriend. Which-gasp-is also against the words of a prophet. In actuality there are quotes from prophets that say we must keep all the commandments. So next time you gawk at some cartilage piercing and wonder how long it will be until God smites them, take inventory of yourself. If you made a mistake that week and yet still consider yourself striving for the celestial kingdom, promptly drop your stone and walk away.
I may not be spiritually mature enough at this time to remove my cartilage piercing, but that certainly doesn't mean I'm not doing quite well in other areas -- maybe even better than you who judge. So maybe I'm working on taking my earring out and maybe you're trying not to gawk at girls wearing one-strap backpacks. But I think Christ accepts the both of us. What I would like to know is how one piece of metal through my lobe is any better than two. I think just because one piercing is so socially acceptable that it would be too extreme to come out against it, doesn't make it right. So I hope all you girls take your one earring out as well. And I would also like to have a discussion on how many steps we can take on the Sabbath without breaking it ... nah, I'll save that for another time.
