Letter to the Editor: Ring just a symbol

Dear Editor,

The concerns of those people worried about the morality of our family statue should be put to rest. A ring merely symbolizes the institution of marriage. It is not the actual covenant of marriage. Meaning, it is possible to be married and not wear a wedding band.

Also, I have noticed a phenomenon about being engaged. A couple is engaged once they have decided to get married. So it is possible to be engaged without having an engagement ring. An engagement ring doesn't make a couple's plans to be married any more 'official' than before the girl has the ring on. The engagement ring merely symbolizes the couple's intent to be married.
