Classic American comedy, and clean like Dove soap.
The Smothers Brothers packed in the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre Aug. 5 with their original combination of comical timing, humorous folk music and improvisational skills.
Finally a show people could attend without the fear of hearing obscenity, vulgarity or immorality. These days, it's nice to feel the relief that comes from taking a date, a family or anyone else to a clean show with appropriate humor.
Stories of opposite reaction have unfortunately been an all too common occurrence.
Can't we all just picture a family driving home from an event in which the 6-year-old is showing off the new vocabulary he or she just picked up?
There were not going to be any car rides like that after this performance.
The brothers from the same Smothers mother gave the crowd all it could ask for, including a great opening act who were brothers of a different name - the Brunson Brothers.
These four siblings showcased quite a talented trumpet quartet. They amazed the audience with their speedy techniques, high notes and recognizable song selection.
A trumpet quartet is not very common, nor is it a well-known musical trend.
But this is precisely what impressed the audience as these artists presented a very professional and entertaining show.
Even before Tom and Dick Smothers began their act, the audience was in a giddy mood as they chatted with their sunbird friends.
(Looked like the same age group had followed them throughout their 40 years in show business.)
From their first comments about how beautiful Utah was (joking that they had never seen smoke look so good), it was easy to tell these seasoned comics adapt their shows wherever they go.
Their timing was perfect as they fed off of one another during the act, a trade that has kept the support of audiences for years.
Appreciation and applause never ceased as the audience enjoyed the good old-fashioned humor, full of natural warmth, which has brought laughs to audiences of all ages.
