Celebrating the anniversary of the martyrdom of Joseph Smith will be the focus of the June 27 devotional.

Kathy D. Pullins, an assistant dean of the J. Reuben Clark Law School, will be the Devotional's featured speaker at 11 a.m. in the JSB auditorium.

Pullins said she will focus on how her life has changed because of the light that Joseph Smith brought into the world.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of her conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She was introduced to the church by two sister missionaries and was baptized on March 14, 1970.

Her passion for Joseph Smith's mission has been the foundation of her testimony.

'Brother Joseph accomplished much that has eternal historical and personal implications for each of us,' Pullins said.

Her devotional, titled 'But For Joseph,' will feature paintings by Liz Lemon Swindle from the book, 'Joseph Smith: Impressions of A Prophet,' by Susan Easton Black.

Pullins said that she believes she has become even more converted to the teachings of gospel by preparing for this devotional.

'As I researched and read, interviewed and soul-searched, my testimony of the Prophet Joseph has moved from the factual to the very personal,' said Pullins.

Pullins earned her bachelor's degree magna cum laude in English from BYU before receiving her Juris Doctorate from the J. Reuben Clark Law School.

As a law student, she was president of the Women's Law Forum.

Now, she oversees student alumni relations and teaches dispute resolution and mediation.

Pullins received the Outstanding Woman on Campus Award at last year's BYU Women's Week.

She was chairwoman the BYU Women's Conference Planning Committee from 1995 to 1998.

She was also the recipient of the Dorathy Merrill Brothers Award for the Advancement of Women in the Profession from the Utah State Bar in March.

She has participated in the Media Review Committee and the Blue Ribbon Governmental Review Commission in Orem.

The devotional will be broadcast live to the Varsity Theater, 2084 JKHB and W-111 BNSN. It will also be shown live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11) and KBYU (89.1). It will be rebroadcast Sunday, July 9 at 6 and 11 a.m. on KBYU-FM.
