Sixth-seeded BYU ended a 12-game losing streak to No. 2 Utah with a 58-54 victory in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas Friday night, March 10.
Sophomore Eric Nielsen scored a career-high 17 points and junior Terrell Lyday contributed 14 of his 16 points in the second half.
BYU opened up both halves with 12-3 runs over the Utes. It took Utah over five minutes to sink its first field goal.
BYU will be making its first appearance at a conference championship game since 1994. The Cougs will face UNLV Saturday, March 11, at 7 p.m. PST for the championship title.
In their two previous meetings this season, BYU (20-9) swept the Rebels (22-7) by a total of three points -- 77-75 and 83-82.
