A local author is trying to share the Christmas spirit with members of the local community through her novel 'Christmas at the M&M.'

Editors at 'The Daily Herald' asked Marilyn Brown to write a Christmas story. 'The Daily Herald' is publishing the novel in serialized form every day from Thanksgiving to Christmas, Brown said.

The book is set in Provo, based upon memories from Brown's childhood.

'I felt I should do a story about this area so names would come up that people recognize,' Brown said.

Brown lived in the M&M Grocery Store in Provo with her family when she was 5 years old. Although some of the places and people in the story are real, many of the circumstances in the book are fictitious, Brown said.

In the book, a young boy stands with his cello waiting for the bus. When it starts to snow, he worries his instrument will be damaged, so he gets into a car with a strange man.

The man is heading up to the mountains to gather medicinal herbs and takes the boy with him. As the storm gets worse, the pair find themselves snowed in.

'People who want to find out what else happens will have to read the story,' Brown said.

The complete novel is available in the BYU Bookstore for $10. The money from the books goes to the BYU Bookstore and to cover the costs of publication, Brown said.

'Publishing this book is not a money making project for me at all,' she said.

Brown said she wants people to enjoy the message of her book.

'I hope this story gives people a nice warm Christmas feeling,' she said.
