Dear Editor:
In response to Val Hale's comments on the new football uniforms, he basically stated, 'Our fans wouldn't wear the old colors to the games.' Has it anything to do with the color? Do Tennessee Volunteer fans wear bright orange every day? No, but have you seen the Tennessee stadium during a game? Nothing but a sea of orange. Alabama? A sea of crimson. Hawaii? A sea of funny green. Do these colors 'go' with things? Obviously no. Why do the fans wear the colors? Tradition, tradition, tradition -- they love their teams passionately.
Will the stands of BYU be filled with dark BYU (navy -- sorry President Bateman) code 287 blue? No. Is there tradition to sway you? No. Does the color mean anything? No. Tan was added to the BYU color scheme because the floors in the new cafeteria are green and tan? That makes no sense. If the administration doesn't care about the colors, why should the rest of us? I saw Rondo (sadly departed) wearing a red and black tie at a BYU basketball game once.
While we're at all this change, give us Alex and the Blues Hounds to replace the marching band and we'll change our Cosmo mascot to a hound dog because they are cute and cuddly and we can sell a lot of those. Better yet, we can play up the Elvis Presley 'Hound Dog' song ... Hmmm, no, not even Elvis would be caught dead in one of those 'bib' uniforms.
