Letter to the Editor: Recycling easy

Dear Editor:

We have been very disturbed with the lack of care and concern BYU students seem to have for the environment. The main problem we have noticed involved with this is a lack of recycling.

Numerous times, we have seen a BYU student throw an aluminum can or newspaper into a garbage can when there was a recycling bin a few feet away. It would not take any extra effort to recycle; students just don't seem to care. We have all noticed the abundance of already read newspapers that clutter our campus. In is unacceptable for this to happen.

There is not reason to throw a newspaper on the ground, on a bench or any other inappropriate place when there are so many places where they can be recycled. It is just irresponsible.

God created this earth for us to live and learn on. He did not make it for us to abuse. Every time we throw away a can, bottle, or newspaper, we are wasting precious landfill space and materials that could have been used again. The only way that we are going to keep this world beautiful and functional in the future is to use it wisely now.

We, as BYU students need to respect the earth and concentrate on making it better. It takes little or no extra effort to throw your recyclable garbage into a recycling bin, and it makes a huge difference. Please take the responsibility and begin recycling.
