Whether students are from Southern California or Ohio, they enjoy going home for the holidays. The vacation time away from the chaos of school and the every day routine is a nice change. But if a student could go anywhere else during the holidays where would it be?
Amy Bush, a travel agent from Morris Travel, said that she books most flights for students going home. But outside of that, the most popular destination is Hawaii.
'Flights to Hawaii sold out a couple months ago ... people usually book their flights a year in advance,' Bush said.
If you look on the Internet travel pages there are offers to ski Canada, bask in the warmth of the Caribbean and explore Europe. So, if it isn't home, where would it be?
Christina Finger, 21, a senior from Garden Grove, Calif., majoring in psychology, said the best place she can think of to spend the holidays would be somewhere with a more mild climate.
'It would be nice to get out of Provo and go somewhere warmer. I would love to go to Hawaii,' Finger said.
Jeremy McDowell agrees with Finger and would also enjoy spending the vacation on the island of Kauai surfing. McDowell, 23, is a senior from El Toro, Calif., majoring in Spanish.
Amber Blair, 22, a junior from Valencia, Calif., majoring in broadcast journalism, said that she would not like to spend the holidays in Hawaii because it would feel too much like summertime.
'I just love to spend the holidays at home. I don't live far from the beach or the mountains, so we can go to both. I am also with my family at home and that is the most important part of the holidays,' Blair said.
Tyler Holbrook, 22, a senior from Dallas majoring in economics said he would be happy just to leave Provo for the holidays.
'It doesn't matter where I go, as long as it is outside of Provo,' Holbrook said.
Some students like Nancy Burgess, 20, a junior from Walnut Creek, Calif., majoring in human biology, were a little more adventurous with their responses and would like to spend their holidays abroad.
'If I couldn't go to California, I would want to go to Spain. Because the climate is the same there and I just love Spain,' Burgess said.
