Thunderous applause filled the auditorium of the Joseph Smith Building as BYU professor Frank Fox showed his students some dancing moves.

Fox challenged his students to raise at least $16,000 for the Sub for Santa campaign. The money will be used to buy Christmas presents and other items for local needy families.

Fox agreed to dress up in a pink tutu and tights if his students met the goal. They did, and he kept his word. Fox went to each of his Wednesday lectures in a pink, tiered tutu, light pink tights, ballet slippers and a blond wig.

Fox then proceeded to dance around the platform where, on normal days, he teaches American Heritage. He pirouetted across the auditorium to music from 'The Nutcracker Suite' while students took pictures. One student even videotaped the performance.

'I really enjoy doing something where I can see it actually making a difference,' Fox said.

Fox started the American Heritage service project in 1985. Since then, Fox has braved a variety of ordeals: suffering through pies being thrown in his face, swallowing goldfish, kissing pigs and dancing like MC Hammer in front of hundreds of students.

This year, sitting toward the back of the auditorium were three of Fox's colleagues who came to see the performance.
