He loves me (pluck). He loves me not (pluck). During the Easter season there are many ways to say 'I love you,' or perhaps 'you mean a lot to me' or even 'I think about you a lot but, I'm way too nervous to talk to you!'
Although roses are always a popular way to say this, there are other spring flowers that are unique and say the same thing.
'The tulip represents love and friendship, the iris means promise and security, the enchantment lily is a sign of devotion, daisies signify innocents and purity and daffodil's express respect and admiration. And of course the most appropriate flower for your favorite graduate is the tiger lily which means prosperity, said Nikki Rowley, an employee of The Flower Patch. The Flower Patch, at 1231 N. University, has a list of different Easter flower meanings.
During the Easter season all the fresh flowers in pastel colors are in bloom; however, the Easter holiday is not a busy holiday for flower shops.
'It's interesting with all the fresh flowers, you would think that Easter would be a really busy time for selling; however, this time of the year is really slow. We sell more blooming plants than flowers. We have so many beautiful flowers in right now too,' said Melanie Bishop, 19, a sophomore from Ogden, Utah majoring in horticulture and an employee of Provo Floral.
'Our most popular item during the Easter season is the spring bunches, which are an arrangement of all different spring flowers. Usually mothers and offices buy these, rarely do students,' Rowley said.
'I love roses, but there is something very beautiful and unique about receiving an iris or a bunch of tulips from a guy. Plus, they smell so good!' said Lindsey Perry, 22, from Preston, Ariz. majoring in family science.
Although flowers are not a high selling item at the florists, in a survey conducted on campus most men said they preferred to buy Easter flowers.
'I think Easter flowers are cool. Roses can get to cheesy and they are more appropriate for special occasions. My favorite Easter flower is the yellow lily,' said Spencer Higa, 23, from Orem, Utah majoring in international business.
'I think it's traditional and more appropriate for the occasion to buy Easter flowers for girls right now,' said Chris Dorny, 25, from Philadelphia, Pa. majoring in electrical engineering.
Unfortunatly, no flower has yet to define 'I'm too nervous to talk to you, but I think about you a lot.' Best advice is to to just go up and talk to her, she won't bite!
