Park City gets its first performance auditorium

By CHRIS FENN-ANSTRUTHER

The Utah Symphony comes to Park City tonight to deliver one more performance of 'Music for Lovers.'

The symphony will celebrate the newly completed George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Center for the Performing Arts, a new addition to Park City High School. This is the first performance auditorium in Park City, and the Utah Symphony will conduct the first symphony orchestra concert to tour at the new center.

The orchestra presents its Valentine's symphony featuring conductor Skitch Henderson and TV star and vocalist Victoria Mallory. All seats are priced at a special introductory rate for the celebration.

'Skitch Henderson is a brilliant conductor and local favorite,' said Katie Sadler, marketing and communications assistant for the Utah Symphony. 'It may be of particular interest to many to know that, although Victoria Mallory is a national celebrity, she lives locally in Park City.'

For years, the Utah Symphony has performed in Deer Valley as part of its summer concert series. However, lack of an indoor concert area has made subscription series concerts impossible, until now. With the completion of the 1,300-seat Eccles Center, the Symphony hopes to make Park City a regular stop on its concert schedule.

'We hope this will be the beginning of a regular presence in Park City,' said Don Andrews, Utah Symphony president. 'Based on our tour of the center, we feel very excited about performing in the new facility. Our enthusiasm over the Center's future has prompted us to offer this symphonic introduction at a popular ticket price.'

Andrews said the Symphony expects a very warm reception at the February 18 event.

The Utah Symphony's Park City debut begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15. Seating is unreserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets can be purchased through ArtTix at (888) 451-2787, the Eccles Center at (435) 655-3114, or Albertson's in Park City.
