Web site offers students more than the usual point

By AARON BOYD

For those who spend Friday nights surfing the net, here's a good launching pad into a little local activity.

The site is www.collegedaze.com. Students on campuses nationwide can access the site for coupons, local events and several ideas for things to do that don't involve staring at a computer screen for hours on end.

Collegedaze has drawn attention from several local businesses that advertise on the page. Most of the coupons and vouchers the businesses offer are substantial enough to make students want to go their real world location.

Two-for-one and half-off coupons are obtained by printing from the page they're on.

The site also categorizes their sponsors for ease of use. Restaurants, car repair shops, sports stores and formal wear shops are listed.

Some local favorites might be the rent-one-set-get-one-set-free ski packages offered by Parks Sportsman or links to Johnny B's website where more discounts can be found.

Another service offered by the website is the movie listings section, where Varsity theater fans can find a complete calendar of movies to be shown for the month. With additional e-mail access, collegedaze can send a reminder of desired movie showings.

For those who like to plan their play time in advance, the site also has several other calendars showing events in Provo and the immediate surrounding area.

Other features include a gradually expanding classified page and a 'Dear Crabby' advice page that gets published on the site twice a week.

Another feature, called the Mind Grind, is packed with trivia questions. Every week the person who answers the most trivia questions wins an official Collegedaze T-shirt.

The student services page offers links to handy ride boards, tutor searches, and, of course, a page for buying and selling college texts.

Collegedaze is one of several localized pages that keep students up-to-date on events. Campus events, sports, community calendars and other resources are just a click away. So to cure boredom and find weekend entertainment, try going to the Internet first.
