Elder Hugh W. Pinnock will speak on 'Christmas Gifts LDS Style' at today's Devotional at 11 a.m. in the Marriott Center.
Elder Pinnock was named a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Oct. 1, 1977. He is presently serving as president of the North America Central Area Presidency.
A native of Utah, Elder Pinnock holds a bachelor's degree in industrial management from The University of Utah. He served as student body president of both his high school and the University of Utah.
Elder Pinnock has been the recipient of Honorary Doctorate degrees from both Westminster College and the Salt Lake Community College. He served as a member of the Board of Education of the Granite School District.
Through the years, Elder Pinnock has served the church in numerous capacities, beginning as a full-time missionary in the Western States Mission where he served as second counselor to the mission president.
He has been a high councilor, bishop, mission president, regional representative and has served on various church general committees, including the Priesthood Leadership Committee and as coordinator of the Hymnbook Committee.
Elder Pinnock has served as general president of the Sunday School on two occasions and as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy.
He has served on a number of business and community service boards and committees such as First Interstate Bank, Utah State Board of Economic Development and the State of Utah Antifraud Committee.
Elder Pinnock was born in Salt Lake City Jan. 15, 1934. He is married to Anne Hawkins from North Hollywood, Calf., and they are the parents of six children and have 17 grandchildren.
The Devotional will be shown live at 11 a.m. on KBYU-TV (Channel 11) and KBYU-FM (89.1). It will be rebroadcast Dec. 21 at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Channel 11 and on the radio at 8 p.m.
