Fleetwood Mac makes a long-awaited comeback

By TIMOTHY KENNEDY

The Mac is back!

After a ten-year separation, Fleetwood Mac, the legendary super-group that recorded such hit albums as 'Rumours' and 'Mirage,' are back together and ready to take the music scene by storm again.

This time, the album is 'The Dance,' and the group is doing an extensive U.S. tour that will be swinging through the Delta Center tonight.

'The Dance' gives a fresh meaning to the term 'long-awaited.' Recorded live for an MTV special, 'The Dance' highlights new renditions of 13 Mac classics, from 'Dreams' to 'Rhiannon,' 'Don't Stop' to 'Tusk' as well as such key tracks as 'The Chain' and 'Silver Springs.' It also features four new songs including 'Temporary One,' 'Sweet Girl,' 'Bleed To Love Her,' and 'My Little Dreams.'

The timing of the Fleetwood Mac reunion couldn't be better. 1997 marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of the original Fleetwood Mac and also celebrates the twenty-year anniversary of their most innovative and successful album thus far, 'Rumours.'

'The 20th anniversary of Rumours gave us a vantage point to look back and forward' said bass player John McVie in a press release. 'We realized that we had created this tremendous body of work and that we wanted to celebrate this accomplishment.'

Lindsey Buckingham initiated the reunion and added the vital link that brought the group together. In a Fleetwood Mac biography Buckingham explains how the group began to reconnect. He said, 'I happened to run into Mick Fleetwood one day and it seemed like he'd been through some changes. We started working together and immediately sparked off of each other.'

Buckingham continued to unofficially reorganize Fleetwood Mac when he invited Christine and John McVie into the studio to record with them. The result was a new, fresh momentum that continued to exert an influence, this time focusing on Stevie Nicks, the fifth member of Fleetwood Mac.

When Nicks became involved again with Fleetwood Mac it only made sense to organize a tour. The rest is history.

Fleetwood Mac will perform tonight at the Delta Center. Tickets are $66 for the lower bowl or $46 for the upper bowl and are still available through SmithTix or at the door. The show, which will not have an opening act, begins at 7 p.m.
