From an obstacle course to the Garren's antics, BYUSA's 'Unforum' constructed an hour full of fun and purpose.
'Constructing Christ-like Lives' was the theme of Tuesday's 'Unforum' in the Marriott Center at 11 a.m.
'We wanted the theme to reflect something that all BYU students could relate to,' said Adam Clark, a junior from Spanish Fork, majoring in environmental science who served as 'Unforum' coordinator and emcee.
'If you can't relate to the construction on campus then you haven't been on campus,' Clark said.
Excavation, foundation, structure and finishing work were the four stages of construction students 'experience' on campus and in their lives.
In the excavation stage, it is time to remove the unwanted and unnecessary things in our lives, Clark said. Warning signs and road blocks are put up; we must find new ways of doing things and find new routes to take, he said.
Tiffany Lott, BYU's hurdles and track star, Matthew Montague, BYU men's basketball point guard and Chad Lewis, tight end for the BYU football team, introduced the second stage, the obstacle course.
The three sports celebrities took on a construction obstacle course complete with portable toilets and construction barricades to demonstrate the difficulties encountered getting around campus and traveling through life.
Although Lott came out victorious, 'Within the gospel of Christ we all start at the same point of origin and are working towards the same end. The only differences are the difficulties we encounter along the way,' Clark said.
Building upon a strong foundation, the third stage of construction will ensure the support of the first two stages, Clark said.
'Building our lives upon the rock of our Redeemer will support the structure we are striving to be,' he said.
The structure of buildings and people are unique and individual to their own form, Clark said.
'Adding the goodness of God to our framework designs each person with his own characteristic beauty,' he said.
The finishing work is the final stage of construction, adding the small and simple things that make the building complete. Brigham Young Awards were given to BYU students, staff and faculty that have gone beyond what they were expected to do by adding their own finishing touches to BYU campus by their service, attitude, activity and persistence in doing good, said Trisha Carter, 'Unforum' coordinator and a senior from Payson, majoring in microbiology.
Brigham Awards were given to Dr. Ray Peterson, Mele Tanner White, Professor Norm Nemrow, The Goodman Family, Paula Brackett, Travis Garrison, Robert Jex and Jerica Mohlman.
Also featured at the 'Unforum' were the Garrens who added their comedic portrayal of a guys apartment that used to be occupied by girls, but was switched due to construction.
