Students searching for bicycles may find what they're looking for at the next BYU surplus sale.
The approximately 120 bicycles impounded by the University Police this year will be sold on April 10, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Cougar Stadium.
The bicycles range in price from $5 to $50, depending on condition. About 20 of the higher quality bikes have been reserved for sale to the highest bidder.
A list of the bicycles available will be printed in the Classified section of The Daily Universe about a week prior to the sale.
All reasonable efforts have been made to contact the owners of the bikes. However, most were abandoned and the owners are untraceable, said L. Russel Fuller, University Police sergeant over traffic and parking.
Students who believe the Traffic Office is holding their bicycles are encouraged to check the list and contact the office by 5 p.m. on the day of the sale. They must provide satisfactory proof of ownership, such as a serial number or a unique description of their bike in order to claim it.
Bicycle inquiries should be directed to the University Traffic Office at 378-2610 between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Bikes are sold annually as part of one of the monthly surplus sales held by the BYU Physical Facilities Division. The bikes are sold along with surplus equipment, ranging from computers to cross-country skis.
The sale has been popular in the past, and Fuller expects a large crowd again this year.
Fuller said there are many nice bicycles available and encourages students to save money by purchasing the abandoned bikes.
'You can get a good bike for almost nothing,' he said.
