Mount Etna erupted Monday, June 2, sending tourists scrambling downhill to safety as ash and rock shot nearly 3 miles into the sky. A tour operator told CNN they had 40 people on the volcano when it erupted. According to Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, explosions are still intensifying, with small amounts of lava and fire still visible.
