A large sinkhole shut down a road in Rochester, New York, on June 19 following a day of record rainfall. The flash flooding caused significant issues for residents, with a road in Livingston County collapsing under the water pressure. Continued rainfall washed away portions of the roadway, leaving behind an estimated 2½ feet of sediment, according to Rochester officials. Surrounding areas in the county were also affected as steady water flowed beneath railroad tracks and roadways, many of which were covered in floodwaters.
