BYU men's soccer, the five-time consecutive NIRSA champions, took another victory over crosstown rival UVU with a dominant 5-0 game finish Friday night.
“I played with them last year so I kind of know how they play and their strong suits," said BYU right wing Ethan Christensen, a transfer from UVU, before the match. "I’m gonna come in with the tactics to go against what I know they do.”
When asked about his decision to transfer, he explained part of it was based on BYU’s community and their religious aspects.
Christensen shared what he believed would give BYU’s an edge in the game: “I think probably our teamwork. We are very team oriented. We have a lot of individual talent but we work really well as a team and I think that’s going to be our strong suit.”

The prediction proved to be true after BYU was leading 2-0 by halftime, with the first goal being scored in the 14th minute of the game.
The team came back stronger after the break with even more tight passes, strong possession play, and effective teamwork that led to three more goals which included a penalty kick.
“My hopes and plans are to go all the way you know, they are five-time national champions so I’m looking to go all the way,” Christensen said. “I want to be a national champion.”
BYU will hope to carry the momentum into its next matchup Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against the University of Utah at South Field.
